Balance and Proprioception

Why is Balance & Proprioception important?

Maintaining balance is essential for sustaining proper body position and minimizing the likelihood of falls. Proprioception, originating from the Latin words meaning "one's own" and "perception," refers to the ability to perceive the relative position of body parts and gauge the strength and effort exerted during movement.

Older individuals face a heightened risk of experiencing balance impairments, which can arise from factors such as muscle weakness, joint stiffness, inner ear issues, medications, a sedentary lifestyle, and neurological conditions.
